A prominent political stalwart in Bayelsa, Chief Joseph Ambakederimo, has described the formation of Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) by former Bayelsa Governor and Senator representing Bayelsa West, Chief Henry Seriake Dickson as mission impossible.
Dickson recently announced the formation of the party and his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the new NDC.
Ambakederimo, who is a convener of South South Reawakening Group (SSRG) and Dickson's constituent from Sagbama LGA of Bayelsa told newsmen in Yenagoa on Wednesday that the NDC NDC is dead on arrival in Bayelsa and even across the larger region.
He also criticised Dickson, for floating an unknown political party and claiming to form a dominant party for Ijaw people.
He said the NDC will have no place in Bayelsa political space as there are no justifiable reasons given for the formation of the group but a clear design to distract governance in the state and to alter the peace of the state.
He said: “The launch of Nigeria Democratic Congress political party promoted by Senator Henry Dickson a few days ago is borne out of malice and deep animosity against political actors in the Bayelsa West Senatorial District, including Governor Douye Diri perceived to be standing against his bid to return to the Nigeria Senate for a third term.
“For the benefit of the Bayelsa people who may not understand what is at stake. What is at stake is the Bayelsa West Senatorial district seat and nothing more.
“A man who has benefited from the unwritten agreement is the one now riding roughshod to destroy the same agreement that has propelled him to the Senate and wants to continue to perpetuate himself.
“The NDC is dead on arrival in Bayelsa State and even across the larger region. The NDC will have no place in Bayelsa political space as there are no justifiable reasons given for the formation of the group but a clear design to distract governance in the state, to alter the peace the state is presently enjoying and pitch Bayelsan against one another.
“One man's ambition should not be allowed to ignite chaos in the state. We as elder statesmen and women speak out and caution trouble makers to desist from the unholy path they are about to embark on.
“Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, a very respectable individual should have a rethink and join hands with Governor Douye Diri and continue with the overall development of the state in the positive path that is evolving.
“As much as we hold Senator Henry Dickson in very high esteem, we should also not fail to admonish him when there are tendencies of him perhaps making mistakes or continuing in a subterranean belligerent manner.
“I want to inform our people that a fringe political party is a no-brainer at this stage of Bayelsa evolution and indeed the South South geopolitical zone . An unknown political party in the political space in Bayelsa is a retrogressive tendency specifically meant to cause crisis and a distraction in our body politic and also a retrogression already on the economic and infrastructural development of the state.
“The NDC will become only a dot in the history of political party trajectory in Nigeria. Recall post colonial era when people from the region floated the Niger Delta Congress, this party didn't fly until they had an alliance with the Northern People's Congress (NPC)." he said.
