Health workers protest in FMC Yenagoa

The Joint Health Sector Union (JOHESU) and Assembly of Health Professionals of Nigeria (AHPN) on Tuesday staged a protest over the non-adjustment of the Consolidated Health Salary Structure (CONHESS).

The unions held the protest at the premises of Federal Medical Center (FMC) in Yenagoa following directives from the national body after embarking on an indefinite strike in 2025.

JOHESU had embarked on an indefinite nationwide strike on Nov. 15, 2025 over the non-adjustment of CONHESS and other welfare issues.

Speaking, the state Chairman, JOHESU FMC, Mr Celestine Onoyina, said that in 2021 an inter-ministerial committee was set up to adjust CONHESS and all work and report were completed in 2023.

Onoyina said that the Ministry of Health acknowledged the report and wrote to the Ministry of Budget for implementation.

‘’However, along the line, the Federal Government of Nigeria stopped the implementation of CONHESS, which agreement has already been reached and signed.

‘’The struggle for the CONHESS adjustment started since 2014 and for more than 10 years now the government is still adamant about it.

“We are here with the circular from the Ministry of Health to the Director General of Budget, tell them about CONHESS that has already been implemented, ‘’ he said.

Onoyino said that the strike would continue until their demand to implement the CONHESS was met.

“We want to use this opportunity to thank our national body for standing by us

 and not betraying us.

Nigeria's Oil export cut by 225,000 bpd till March as Bonga FPSO is shut for maintenance

L

Nigeria's oil export will dip by 225,000 barrels per day (bpd) in February following the shutdown of the Bonga Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessel for turn around maintenance.

Gas output would also be down by 150 million standard cubic feet of gas per day whilst the maintenance lasts.
Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company Limited (SNEPCo) in a statement on Sunday said it has commenced a turnaround maintenance activity at the Bonga FPSO vessel.
According to the statement by Mrs Gladys Afam-Anadu, Communications Manager at SNEPCo, the exercise is a statutory and integrity assurance programme aimed at extending the life of the facility.
“The scheduled maintenance activity is designed to ensure the FPSO continues to operate safely and efficiently for the next 15 years, while reducing unplanned deferments and strengthening the asset’s overall resilience.
“We expect to resume operations in March following the completion of the turnaround.” the statement quoted SNEPCo Managing Director, Ronald Adams as saying.
The energy firm explained that the scope of work includes statutory inspections, certification and regulatory compliance checks, major asset -integrity upgrades as well as engineering modifications to improve long-term operations and subsea assurance activities.
“The FPSO located approximately 120 km offshore in water depths exceeding 1,000 meters, has the capacity to produce 225,000 barrels of oil and 150 million standard cubic feet of gas per day.
“Maintaining the integrity of this critical national asset is essential to supporting stable production and Nigeria’s wider energy, security and revenue objectives.
“This year’s turnaround comes at a strategic moment for SNEPCo and its co‑venture partners,” the firm stated..
SNEPCo recalled that in 2024, the partners took Final Investment Decision on Bonga North, a subsea tie‑back development that will depend on the reliability and enhanced capacity of the Bonga FPSO.
It emphasised that a successful turnaround maintenance is therefore essential to preparing the facility for the additional volumes and operational demands associated with the new development.
According to the statement, the last turnaround maintenance activity on the FPSO took place in October 2022.
“On February 1 , 2023, the asset delivered its 1 billionth barrel of oil since production commenced in 2005,” it stated.
SNEPCo operates the Bonga field in partnership with Esso Exploration and Production Nigeria (Deepwater) Limited and Nigerian Agip Exploration Limited, under a Production Sharing Contract with the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd).
