Chief Ideme Idege, traditional ruler of Otuegwe 1 community in Ogbia council area of Bayelsa State on Wesnesday applauded the Gov Douye Diri led administration in the State over ongoing massive development projects in Bayelsa Rural Communities.
Idege who
gave the commendation while speaking in an interview in Yenagoa on the rural
development policy of the current administration noted that rural dwellers now
have a sense of belonging.
The Bayelsa government on Thursday said it has intervened to halt the dispute between students of the state owned Niger Delta University (NDU) and management of the institution that necessitated shut down of the university.
A mediatory meeting convened by Bayelsa government between the Governing Council of the NDU, students' representatives and other stakeholders held at the Government House, Yenagoa.
The Bayelsa government on Thursday dismissed online media reports alleging that Gov Douye Diri on Tuesday accused the Federal Government of sectional bias in a breakfast television show.
A statement issued by Mr Ayibaina Duba, Commissioner for Information, Orientation and Strategy described the report as fake news calculated to pitch the Bayelsa government against the President Muhammadu Buhari led government.
The government described the report which accused the federal government of sectional bias in the handling of the case of the proclaimed leader of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) as falsehood.
Bayelsa Government says it would assist subsistence farmers in the state with improved techniques and inputs to boost production and achieve food security.
Mr David Alagoa, Commissioner for Agriculture,
stated on Saturday in Yenagoa, while fielding questions from members of
Federated Correspondent’s Chapel of Nigeria Union of Journalists currently on
inspection tour of projects in the state.
Alagoa explained that the move was to empower small
scale farmers considering the fact that they produced 80 per cent of the food
being consumed in the state.
The Bayelsa Government has urged eligible residents in the state to participate in the ongoing Continuous Voters’ Registration (CVR) by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Chief
Ayibaina Duba, the INEC Commissioner for Information, Orientation and
Strategy, made the appeal in a statement on Friday in Yenagoa.
The
nationwide exercise started on June 28 at INEC’s offices across the
eight local government areas in Bayelsa.
Duba,
who said a credible Voters’ Register was crucial to credible electoral process,
advised residents to take their civic responsibilities seriously by
participating in the registration.
The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ),on Thursday advocated for equal access to opportunity to women achieve equity and gender balance in the society.
Mrs Ladi Bala, National President of NAWOJ made the call in her opening
remarks at a 3-day workshop on Gender-Sensitive reporting for female
journalists in Yenagoa, Bayelsa capital.
The NAWOJ President noted that female journalists were often exposed to
danger and intimidated in the cause of carrying out their lawful duties of
rendering an accurate account of happenings in society.
Two students of Cross River University of Technology, Victoria Effiong and Paul Agbor, has emerged winners of the Science and Technology Innovation Challenge, organised by Nigeria Content Development and Monitoring Board, in partnership with Enactus Nigeria.
They emerged winners after defeating five other universities, to win the trophy
and N10, million cash prize, on Tuesday.
This is the first edition of the challenge, and six universities made it to the
finals of the Nigerian Content Science and Technology Innovation Challenge
(STIC)
