Bayelsa Journalists, Lawyers in novelty swimming contest to strengthen ties


The novelty swimming contest between Sagbama Branch of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) is aimed at strengthening ties of friendship amongst professional in the state.

Chairman of the Bayelsa council of the NUJ, Mr Samuel Numonengi, stated this while making remarks at the contest held in Yenagoa on Tuesday.

The event was part of the activities lined up to mark the 2018 end of year NBA. 




Numonengi called for continued collaboration between both professional bodies as it would go a long way in strengthening the camaraderie to assist in achieving their set goals of a better society..

Numonengi, who was represented by the treasurer of the state council, Mrs Joy Ifidi Okah, assured all of the councils readiness to partner with sister associations to achieve a common cause to change society for good.

Earlier in her opening address, chairperson of the Sagbama Branch of the NBA, Mrs Dise Ogbise-Ehisere applauded Lawywers, Journalists and guests for turning up en masse for the event


 She urged all to have fun as the novelty swimming contest was put together to give members some opportunity to unwind and interact.

 "Who knows, some can even find love in the cause of this friendly contest. Lawyers mingling with journalists in an atmosphere of fun devoid of our usual schedules in the courts and in the newsrooms, wonderful things can happen." Ogbise-Ehisere said.

Ogbise-Ehisere further called on both bodies not to forget their goals of uplifting society through advocacy on social issues of molestations, child abuse and other vices.

"This is another opportunity for us to highlight and reappraise our strategies on how best to reduce such social vices to the barest minimum. Let's continue to salvage the cause to take society to a better pedestal," she said.

The novelty swimming contests climaxed with members in a tug of pool war with five female NBA members locking horns with their female NUJ counterparts.

 Eyal Ikisikpo, Janet Twonmute and Lady Barbara represented female NUJ members while their male counterparts  Amatare Mozimo, Kenechukwu Obiajuru of the NUJ took on the male lawyers.

The male NBA team comprised of  Stanley Damabide, Ben Azebi, Collins  Boleigha amongst others..

The duel ended in a tie.
