Man, 40, bags 8 yearjail term for defiling 4 year old girl and 5 year old boy in Bayelsa

Mr Godbless Abe, who hails from Southern Ijaw Local Government Area, Bayelsa was on Wednesdey sentenced to eight years in prison for defiling underage boy and girl.

Chief Magistrate Utovie Spiff who presides at Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Yenagoa in a ruling found the suspect guilty and convicted him on two counts of unlawful sexual intercourse of a four-year-old girl  and unlawful carnal knowledge of a five-year-old boy.





The police reportedly arrested the man on Tuesday arraigned him on Wednesday before the court, where he pleaded guilty to the the two counts.

It was gathered that the conviction was sequeul to efforts of the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA), who reported the case of  to the police.

The pedophile, according to the Police Prosecutor was in the habit of indecently assaulting little children, was said to have defiled the boy through his anus and the girl through her private part.

It was learnt that some of the parents and guardians of the victims on many occasions forgave the man after receiving reports of his assaults on their children.

It was also gathered that on September 15, the Chairperson of FIDA in Bayelsa,  Mrs Dise Ogbise-Erhisere was contacted by a concerned indigene, who reported a new case of the man's escapades to her.


Expressing delight over the judgment the FIDA Chairpersom said it is victory for FIDA Bayelsa and a warning to pedophiles, child molesters and abusers.

Ogbise-Erhisere said she was impressed with the speedy dispensation of justice on the case.

She explained that feat was achieved because she got a distress call from a concerned neighbor following the defilement of the boy.

"I was informed by neighbours that the convict is a serial molester of children where  and that the mother of the four-yearold girl caught him having carnal knowledge of her daughter", she said.

She commended the police for swiftly arresting and arraigning the man and praised the members of the Medical Women Association of Nigeria (MWAN), Bayelsa chapter, for their roles in treating the victims.
