George Turnah Writes NDDC, EFCC seeks disclosure of contracts

Mr George Turnah, an aide to former Managing Director of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has urged the commission to disclose its contracts awards to clear him from allegations levelled against him.

Turnar said that he never got multiple contracts from the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), as being alleged by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Turnah is facing trial at Federal High Court, sitting in Port Harcourt on a 12-count charge, bordering on obtaining money by false pretence, money laundering and abuse of office.

Turnah was arrested in Port Harcourt in March 2017  in connection with alleged possession of  N2 billion , suspected to be siphoned from the NDDC while he served in the commission between 2012 and 2015.

The Spokesman of the EFCC, Mr Wilson Uwajaren, had said that preliminary investigations indicated that Turnah made deposits in his personal and company bank accounts in excess of N2 billion.

Turnah, through his lawyer, Amuda-Kannike (SAN) wrote to the Managing Director of the NDDC to seek for information and clarifications on the purported claims credited to the EFCC.

The anti graft agency further alleged that Turnar got various contracts from the commission, and never executed them.

In a letter dated  May 30, 2017 and signed by one I.D Wariboko, and made available to newsmen on Sunday in Yenagoa, Turnah is seeking information on details of such purported contracts.

They include building of Ogbia Brotherhood village and electrification of Ogbia communities including Kolo town.

Turnar wants the NDDC in line with the Freedom of Information Act furnish them with names of companies the projects were awarded, total scope and amount of the said contracts.

He also requested to know how much has been released so far to the said contractors.

Some people had on Tuesday took to the streets in Yenagoa to show their support to the EFCC for the arrest and prosecution of Turnah
.
The rally took place simultaneously in Yenagoa and seven other Local Government Areas in Bayelsa.
