Bayelsa Govt extols virtues of late Ejim, New Telegraph

The Bayelsa Government has extolled the virtues of Late
Chris Ejim who until his death was the State Correspondent of New Telegraph
Newspapers in Bayelsa.
Mr Jonathan Obuebite, Bayelsa Commissioner of Information
spoke on the life and times of the late reporter at a service of songs
organised by the Correspondents chapel of Nigerian Union of Journalists on
Wednesday night..
The Commissioner noted that Ejim was frank, forthright
and spoke truth to power without fear of the consequences and urged journalists
in the state to leave worthy legacies for posterity.
“The profession of journalism is such that the reporter
has a connection with his audience which is influenced by the work of the
journalist and it is important to know that our lives are in the hands of God.
“When we are gone, what shall we be remembered for ? We
in government are engaged in building of Bayelsa and we need the support of all
and sundry to make the required impact,” Obuebite said.
Mr Soji Ajibola, Special Assistant to Bayelsa Governor on
Print Media who recalled his journalism practice years with Ejim noted that the
late reporter was accommodating and reliable.
In his tribute, Mr John Angese, Chairman of Bayelsa
Council of Nigerian Union of Journalists applauded the courageous disposition
of the late journalist and prayed for the repose of Ejim’s soul.
Mr Kola Oredipe, Chairman of the Correspondents Chapel in
his remarks noted that Ejim’s demise was a sad loss to the journalism
profession and prayed to God to grant the family the fortitude to bear the
loss.
He appreciated the large turnout for the occasion.
Ejim, 50 died on April 20, 2017 after a brief illness and
his funeral rites will be performed on June 24 at his country home, Ezira in
Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra.
