Expert advocates revival of idle wells to boost oil output to meet OPEC quota


Dr Victor Ekpenyong, an oil industry expert, says the country should leverage on existing oil reserves to boost oil production to earn more to meet revenue shortfalls.


Ekpenyong, Chief Executive of Kenyon International West Africa Ltd., a Well Control Services firm, made the call during an interactive session with journalists in Yenagoa on the state of the oil industry.

Jonathan can't 'hijack' Bayelsa's ministerial slot says APC Campaign Council


The Bayelsa Chapter of the Tinubu/Shettima  Independent Campaign Council (ICC) on Sunday allayed fears of impending hijack of Bayelsa's ministeriæl slot by non All Progressives Congress (APC) faithful.


The support group assured members of the APC in the state that former President Goodluck Jonathan will not be allowed to nominate the Bayelsa's ministerial slot.


The ICC said it was inconceivable for Jonathan, who is one of the leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), to nominate the state's representative in the incoming cabinet of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.


Police reunites trafficked children abandoned in Yenagoa with family.


The Police in Bayelsa on Sunday said two children purportedly abandoned by an unknown child trafficker have been reunited with their family.


SP Asinim Butswat, Police Public Relations Officer in Bayelsa saiid that the abandoned children of same parents were brought to the Police by a 'Good Samaritan'.


Butswat said that investigations were underway to trace and apprehend the suspected tafficker who allegedly brought the children from Rivers to Bayelsa and abandoned them.

Cargo boat capsizes in Bayelsa, passengers swim to safety

A boat mishap involving a cargo and passenger boat MV Tari occured along the Yenagoa-Nembe-Brasss waterways.



The ill-fated boat capsizes near Okoroma in Nembe Local Government Area of Bayelsa and the passengers on board swimmer to safety whilst the cargo remained submerged.


Mr Tari Dikuma, Assistant Secretary of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria, Okpoama unit, told our correspondent  that the incident occurred on Thursday afternoon.

Buhari applauds, reappoints Idris Musa as NOSDRA Director-General

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the reappointment of Mr Idris Musa as Director-General of the National Oil Spills Detection and Response Agency (NOSDRA) following sterling performænce in the past four years.


The development was announced in a statement issued on Tuesday by Olusegun Shogbola, Media Aide to Minister of Environment Mohammed Abdullahi on behalf of the Minister.

INEC distributes sensitive election materials for State Assembly Elections in Bayelsa

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Bayelsa on Thursday distributed materials for State Assembly Election slated for March 18.


The sensitive materials were sorted out and dispatched at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Yenagoa to the eight local government area that make up the 24 constituencies in the state.


The distribution of materials was witnessed by Party agents and other stakeholders, whilest journalists were not allowed into the premises to witness first hand, the distribution process.
