Gov. Diri applauds INEC’s test run of BVAS in Delta South bye-election

Gov Douye Diri on Sunday commended Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the successful introduction and deployment of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS).

 

 

INEC introduced and tested the new voter accreditation device on Saturday in the Isoko South Constituency 1 bye-election into the Delta State House of Assembly. 

 

 

Diri in a statement on Sunday by his Chief Press Secretary, Daniel Alabrah, said the successful deployment of the device ensured the accreditation and voting process were fair and credible.

N3bn loan diversion: change of defense counsel stalls ‘whistle blower’s trial

The change of counsel to John Idumange, a former General Manager of Radio Bayelsa, who raised an alarm over alleged diversion of N3 billion Agric loan by government officials on Friday  stalled trial at a Bayelsa High Court.

 

When the case was called for hearing, a new counsel Ms Ebiye Enegi who announced her appearance for Idumange urged the court to grant a short adjournment to enable her study the case file as she was only briefed the previous day.

 

She apologized for Idumange's absence in court adding that the defendant was currently in hospital for treaent .

 

Ex-W/African leaders condemn coup in Guinea seek stability

Former Presidents in the subregion under the auspices of West African Elders Forum (WAEF) on Friday condemned the coup in Guinea and expressed concerns on stability of the area.

The group described as unfortunate,  the political development in Guinea where military officers have taken into custody the nation's President, dissolved the country's current elected government and suspended the nation's constitution. 

 

Gunmen attack, kill Police, NSCDC personnel at checkpoint in Bayelsa

Unknown gunmen have attacked a joint security team in Yenagoa leading to loss of a policeman and personnel of Nigerian Securityand Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC)

.  

 

 

It was gathered that operatives of a Joint Task Force codename Operation Doo Akpor, repelled an attack by gunmen at a nipping point at Okarki Junction, Yenagoa.

 

 

“On Sept. 5, Operatives of Operation Doo Akpor, at  Okarki Junction came under heavy fire by gunmen, the gallant operatives engaged the hoodlums in a shoot-out and repelled them from attacking the nipping point.’’

 

Bayelsa Govt to complete ongoing projects – Commissioner

 Government on Wednesday reiterated its commitment to prudent and transparent use of public funds to complete ongoing projects.

Mr Ayibaina Duba, the state Commissioner for Information, Orientation and Strategy, said the administration would ensure value for money in the execution of the projects.

Scientist says new technique increases shelf life of edible mushrooms from 3 to 10 days

A Bayelsa-based scientist on Sunday advocated the use of emerging techniques that increases the shelf life of edible mushroom to tackle protein deficiency.

 

Mr ThankGod Timipanipiri-Wood said in an interview that a recently developed genetic technique which increases the shelf life of mushroom from three to 10 days would transform the economic benefit of mushroom farmers.

 

Timipanipiri-Wood said the method known as Clustered Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeats and associated protein 9 (CRISPR-Cas9) improvesthe freshness of edible mushroom by 80 per cent.

 

Police recover remains of man who murdered wife, committed suicide in Yenagoa

The Police in Bayelsa on Thursday said it was investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a couple whose remains have been recovered in their residence in Yenagoa.

 

 

SP Asinim Butswat, Spokesman for the Police in Bayelsa disclosed that preliminary findings suggest that the husband may have killed the wife and committed suicide.
