Gov. Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State has reiterated his administration's commitment to improving infrastructure in the state.
Oborevwori gave the assurance on Monday during the inauguration of a newly constructed and fully equipped Cottage Hospital at Iteregbi Community, Uvwie Local Government Area of the state.
The governor was represented at the event by the state deputy governor, Sir Monday Onyeme.
The hospital was built by the Uvwie Local Government Council under the leadership of Chief Anthony Ofoni.
Oborevwori also assured the people of Uvwie kingdom that his administration would address their key developmental needs as presented by the king, HRM Dr Emmanuel Sideso, Abe 1, the Ovie of Uvwie Kingdom.
“I want to assure you that the few demands you made will be addressed.
"The completion of one portion of this hospital, the construction of a small access road, and other related requests will be acted up on," he said.
The governor commended Chief Ofoni for his proactive leadership and focus on human-centred projects.
“Mr Chairman has demonstrated seriousness and commitment to the welfare of his people.
"Beyond markets, he has turned his attention to healthcare, a critical sector for community wellbeing.
"This edifice is more than a cottage hospital; it is a facility of general hospital standard, well equipped and staffed.
"I commend him for this initiative,” the governor said.
Earlier, in his goodwill message, the Ovie of Uvwie Kingdom,
expressed appreciation to the state government for its continuous infrastructural drive across the kingdom.
The royal father titled his goodwill message as “A Moment of Gratitude and Progress".
He highlighted some of the projects embarked upon by the Oborevwori-led administration to include: the construction of three flyovers, a clover-leaf interchange in Effurun.
Others are, the completed drainage works and road expansions handled by Julius Berger Nigeria Plc.
The king, however, appealed to the governor to complete the Mother and Child Care Hospital at Ekpan among others.
In his address of welcome, Chief Ofoni, the Chairman, Uvwie Local Government Area said the hospital project aligns with the governor’s M.O.R.E Agenda.
According to him, the governor's M.O.R.E agenda is aimed at building a stronger, healthier Delta through Meaningful Development, Opportunities for All, Realistic Reforms, and Enhanced Peace and Security.
He said that his administration had made some remarkable achievements including the construction of modern markets in Ekpan and Ugboroke, renovation of healthcare centres, empowerment schemes, and various infrastructural works.
“We conceived this hospital to make healthcare accessible and affordable for all residents of Uvwie.
"It is fully solar-powered, furnished with modern medical facilities, and complemented by staff quarters to ensure 24-hour service delivery,” he said.
Ofoni appealed to the state government to fix the access roads to the Ugbomro/Atata Ultra Modern Market and the dump site at Ohorhe.
“With the unrelenting support of our governor and the cooperation of our people, I am confident that the story of Uvwie’s development has only just begun.
"There is indeed more to come,” he said.
