Bayelsa Police Command bemoans involvement of juveniles in drugs, parades 30 armed robbery suspects, 66 minors

The police high command in Bayelsa State has expressed concern over the increasing number of minors involved in criminal activities in the state.

Briefing journalists in his office on Tuesday, the state commissioner of police, Mr. Amba Asuquo said the command arrested 66 minors in the Ekeki area of the state for alleged involvement in various forms of criminal activities.

“On 29/10/2017 at about 2030hrs, ASP Stephen Omolegie and a team of SARS Yenagoa raided Ekeki community and arrested 36 males and 30 females under aged persons who are between the age range of 14 and 17.





“Some of the suspects were seen in possession of weeds suspected to be Indian hemp. Profiling/Screening is still on. They are going to be warned and discharged”, the commissioner said.

He warned parents to devote more time for proper upbringing of their children so that they can grow up and contribute to the building of a healthy and crime free society.

Also paraded by the commissioner were other 30 suspects arrested at various locations in the state for alleged involvement in armed robbery, kidnapping and sea piracy.

Among the suspects were a couple, Preye Idan ‘m’35 years and Divine Idan ‘f’ 18 years who hired a locally made revolver pistol from  Iro Royereyigha ‘m’ 30 years and Abazi Perelebina ‘f’ 18 years who claimed to be husband and wife and robbed one Uchenna Juliet of cloths at her boutique in Biogbolo-Epie in Yenagoa.

The commissioner gave a summary of arms and ammunitions recovered from the suspects as four locally made revolver pistol and two pump actions.

The rest are one 7.62 live ammunition, twenty .9mm live ammunitions and thirty rounds of AAA cartridges.
