Customer seeks N3b compensation from bank over illegal withdrawal

Mr Godwin Sidi, Managing Director of Godsidi Investments Limited has dragged the management of Access Bank to a High Court in Yenagoa for unauthourised deductions from a corporate bank accounts.

The claimant, Sidi is seeking N3billion compensation for unauthorized withdrawal of N151.81 million from the account of his company, Godsidi Investments Limited.




Justice Young Agola  who heard the matter on Thursday however adjourned further hearing on the matter to May 2, 2017 after entertaining cross examination by the counsel to the Defendant, Mr C.B.Sigalo.

Speaking after the adjournment, Counsel to the claimant, Mr George Halliday said his client was in the court to address the issue of non authorized withdrawal of N151, 810, 932, 19 kobo from his account by Access bank.

Halliday said the matter is a clear case for his client as the bank did not seek his approval before such huge sum of money was withdrawn from his account and paid into Bayelsa State Government Account.

According to Halliday, his client’s account was tempered with by the management of Access Bank without the approval of his client and prayed the court to ensure that the money withdrawn was reversed.

  In addition to the reversal, he is also seeking a N3 billion compensation from the bank.

Sidi said when he noticed that his company account was tampered with by Access bank without his approval, he approached the court for redress.


The claimant said he had lodged complain with the  Central Bank of Nigeria, Consumer Protection Council, Economic and Financial Crime Commission over the illegal withdrawal by the bank without his authorization.

Counsel to the defendant, Access Bank, C.B Sigalo declined comment, saying that the case is before the court.
