First Anniversary in Office: inherited 0ver 8 years Pensioners’ liability- says Gov Diri

Barely three days to his first anniversary in office, Gov Douye Diri of Bayelsa has disclosed that he inherited outstanding liabilities for gratuities and pension from his predecessor, Sen Seriake Dickson.



It will be  recalled that Diri was sworn in as Bayelsa governor, on Feb. 14, 2020 following a Supreme Court verdict on Feb. 13, 2020 that sacked the erstwhile Governor-Elect Chief David Lyon.



Speaking at an interactive session with newsmen as part of activities for the first anniversary in office, Diri explained that he remains committed to offsetting the pension liabilities.

Suspected oil thieves ambush, kill soldier on surveillance patrol in Apoi, Bayelsa

Unknown gunmen suspected to be oil thieves have killed a soldier and made away with his weapon in Apoi Community in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa.


It will be recalled that a similar fate befell a team of Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) team on Feb. 4 who lost their weapons during a gun duel with the hoodlums.


Armed gangs frequently ambush military operatives deployed to guard oil facilities in the creeks of Ekeremor and Southern Ijaw Local Government Areas to harvest their arms and ammunition.

Gov Diri’s Aide, Oredipe donates sports kits to Bayelsa Athletics Team

Mr. Kola Oredipe, Director,New Media to Bayelsa Governor on Tuesday presented training kits to Bayelsa athletics team to the forthcoming National Sports Festival in Edo State. 

 

 

 

 

Oredipe, a former athlete and journalist said the donation was part of efforts to compliment government efforts in sports development as well as boost the morale of athletes to win laurels.

 

  

 

 

 

  Items donated include spike shoes, running vest and other training kits.

CAN President, to bow out as Nigerian Baptist Convention Prident in June

President of the  Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and Nigerian Baptist Convention (NBC), Dr Samson Ayokunle, on Sunday said he is leaving office with a huge sense of satisfaction and happiness.



Ayokunle stated this in his message at the Newlife Baptist Church (NLBC), Biogbolo-Epie, Yenagoa, during his farewell visit to some churches in the Bayelsa Baptist Conference on Sunday.

Unspent N26bn: We acted in compliance to FG’s financial regulations- Amnesty Office

The Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP) on Friday said that it returned some N26 billion unspent funds to the treasury in compliance to extant financial guidelines.

 

 

Mr Nneotaobase Egbe, Special Adviser on Media to Interim Administrator,  PAP, Col. Milland Dikio, (Rtd) in a statement dismissed reports that the PAP was targeted in the return of unspent funds.

Oil thieves Attack NSCDC Operatives in Ekeremor LGA, Bayelsa as Govt condemns act

The Bayelsa government on Thursday condemned the attack on operatives of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) in Ekeremor Local Government Area of the state by suspected oil thieves.

.



The condemnation was contained in a press statement issued by Mr Doubara Atasi, Senior Special Assistant to Bayelsa Deputy Governor, Sen.  Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo.




This followed a meeting with NSCDC officials, community leaders and stakeholders from the area at Government House, Yenagoa.

Police brutality: Be discreet while recording police officers, CP Okoli advises

 

            Commissioner of Police, Bayelsa Police Command, CP Mike Okoli has called on Nigerians to be discrete and cautious when taking pictures and video of police officers brutalising the citizens.

  • Okoli gave the advice in Port Harcourt on Tuesday while receiving award as ‘Most Active’ commissioner of police in South South, serving as CP, Bayelsa Police Command.




  • The award was organised by the Bosinde Araikpe Global Peace Initiative (BAGPI) for police officers who distinguished themselves while carrying out their duty.
