A Niger Delta group, Patriots of Ijaw Nation (PIN), on Sunday advised Gov Nyesom Wike of Rivers to drop the idea of inking Ex-Gov Timipe Sylva to protests against the sacking of erstwhile Governor-Elect.

Wike had in a press statement alleged the Sylva, Minister of State for Petroleum Recourses of being behind the protest targeted at Dr Peter and Mary Odili’s residences, an allegation Sylva also denied in another statement.

PIN said it has discovered a fresh plot for another protest and advised Wike, to stop a planned protest against the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources.

Federal High Court charges 4 UBA staff for alleged Cybercrime, fraud and stealing

The Federal High Court Yenagoa presided over by Justice Abimbola Awogboro, Thursday ordered the arrest of four staff of Inited Bank for Africa PLC (UBA) charged with cybercrime, fraud and stealing.

Abimbola issued a warrant for the arrest of UBA PLC and four members of its staff for failing to appear in Court even after they were summoned in charge NO:FHC/YNG/10c/2019. 

The Defendants, UBA PLC, and four of its staff who allegedly manipulated the account of the Federal High Court and reversed a deposit ordered by the court without authorizations were all absent.

Environmentalist berates Agip’s response to oil leak at Brass Export Terminal

Rev Nnimmo Bassey, an Environmental Rights Crusader on Tuesday condemned the response by Nigerian Agip Oil Company (NAOC) to the Feb 3 oil leak at its oilfields in Brass, Bayelsa.

The pipeline explosion on a line feeding the oil export facility discharged crude into the environment and compelled the firm to shut down the line amidst concerns by oil industry observers on oil output shortfalls.

The facility, according to Eni, the Italian parent company of NAOC has capacity to handle exports of 90,000 barrels of crude per day.

S/Court judgment protests in Bayelsa: World Assembly of Youth visits affected sites, advocates peace.

The World Assembly of Youth (WAY) has sent a delegation of youth and peace advocates on tour of affected institutions in the violence that trailed the Supreme Court judgment on Bayelsa.

It would be recalled that the apex court had ruled that Lyon’s Deputy, Degi Ereminyo, submitted forged documents which made them ineligible to contest the state’s governorship election in the first instance.

INEC, in compliance with the judgment, on Friday issued a certificate of return to the PDP candidate, who took the oath of office amidst tight security in the car park at Government House, Yenagoa.

Youth leader seeks unity amongst Bayesa oil communities to fast track development

Mr. Torke Ekpetun, Youth President of Agbidiama community, Ekeremor LGA in Bayelsa has advocated peace amongst oil communities to attract development and improve standard of living.

Ekpetun said in an interview on Tuesday that the greatest problems facing oil communities were disunity and selfish community leadership agenda which has made development elude oil rich communities across the state.

Ekpetun, who was recently inaugurated in office said he would pursue a policy of unity amongst the people and ensure that International Oil Companies in the area would work with community leadership for common good.

Ex-militants stipends: Court dismisses application seeking to stay proceedings

The Federal High Court in Yenagoa on Tuesday dismissed a motion for stay of proceedings brought before it by Messrs Aso Tambo and Stephen Ebisintei

The two ex-militants had sought to be joined in the suit sometime last year, but Justice Awogboro Abimbola dismissed their motion to be joined.

The applicants approached the court with another application for a stay of proceeding pending determination of their appeal.

Abimbola ruled on the application for stay of proceeding based on a pending appeal to her earlier ruling.

Man, 30, in Police net over alleged murder of wife, 26, in Brass LGA , Bayelsa

The Bayelsa Police Command on Thursday said it had started an investigation to unravel the mystery surrounding the death of a 26-year-old wife in Brass, a coastal settlement in Bayelsa.

It was learnt that the couple, Monday Uwem and wife, Blessing, until the incident were resident at a fishing camp in Akassa area of Brass, Bayelsa.
SP Asinim Butswat, the Spokesman for the Command, said in Yenagoa that the deceased’s husband was invited by the police to help in its investigations.
