Mr Uchenna Onyekaonwu of the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) has been unveiled as the new President of Rotary Club, Yenagoa Sunshine chapter.
Speaking after his
installation on Sunday in Yenegoa, Onyekaonwu commended members of the club for
finding him worthy to be their president.
Onyekaonwu noted
that there was no position that did not come with its own challenges.
“Dear friends,
becoming a Rotarian President comes with great expectations and it is with a high
sense of humility I accept the task to serve to change lives,’’ he said.
He commended the
Chapter President of the Club, Mr Pius Elias, the immediate past President,
Jerry Onyezumere, Board of Directors, Club members District Membership
Chairman, Anthony Olikagu, amongst others for their efforts towards his
installation.
The new president
said the club had selected projects across its seven areas of focus, putting
into consideration the benefactors and how the projects would put smile on the
faces of the downtrodden.
In his farewell
message, Onyekaonwu’s predecessor, Mr Onyezumere, thanked all for coming to the
installation ceremony of Onyekaonwu.
He said that he
was glad to have served as the second President of the club, after taking over
from the Rotary Connects the World, Mr Pius Elias.
Projects carried
out by the club included tree planting at St. Mathias Catholic School, Amarata
and donation of 50 portable solar lamps to Ekpetiama Comprehensive High School,
Tombia.
The club also had
a breastfeeding awareness campaign at Agudama Epie Health Centre and polio
awareness campaign.
