Bayelsa primary school teachers lament non implementation of promotion in April salary

Primary school teachers in Bayelsa have expressed disappointment over the non-implementation of promotion increment pledged by Gov Douye Diri from April salary.

 

The state government had promised to commence the implementation of promotion increment for primary school teachers who are in the services of local governments by augmenting with about N200 million.

 

It was learnt that the payment of promotion increment for primary school teachers has stalled since 2013.

SPDC’s pipeline spilled 276 barrels into Bayelsa, Rivers Communities in April - Report

The 14-Inch crude trunkline operated by Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) in the Niger Delta spilled 276 barrels of Shell’s Bonny Light crude blend in three incidents in April 2021.

 

 

 

The Okordia-Rumekpe crude pipeline is part of the Trans Niger Pipeline (TNP) network crisscrossing SPDC’s onshore fields which conveys crude to the oil firm’s crude export terminal at Bonny in Rivers.

 

 

 

It was learnt on Monday that the 276 barrels of crude is the cumulative volume of spill from a section of the pipeline that transverses Bayelsa and Rivers communities in the month under review.

The Movement for the Survival of Izon Ethnic Nationality in Niger Delta (MOSIEND) has condemned the violent attack on officers of the Nigerian Police Force at their various duty post's in Rivers State on Friday May 7, 2021.

 

 

It would be recalled that the attack left 7 policemen dead

 

 

Alhaji Abubakar Amaigo Brown, National Director Mobilization and Comrade George Okitikpi, Chief Security Officer to MOSIEND President in a statement issued in Port Harcourt conveyed the group’s concerns on the worsening insecurity in Rivers state..

NACA seeks more participation amongst governments in HIV/AIDS response

The National Agency for the Control of  AIDS (NACA)  on Friday called on the three tiers of government to participate more and take ownership of HIV/AIDS response  in the country.

 

 

The Director-General of NACA, Dr  Gambo Aliyu  made the call at the ongoing 4-Day  HIV Media Advocacy and Social Behaviour Change Communication(SBCC) Skills Building Workshop in Yenagoa.

 

 

 The training which draws participants from medical experts in HIV/AIDS and journalists focuses on HIV, Pre-Exposure  Prophylaxis (PrEP)   and HIV Self Testing.

We are addressing challenges posed by closure of Silver River, says Bayelsa Govt

 The Bayelsa government on Wednesday said it is addressing the challenges caused by blockage of the Silver River at Aguobiri in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area (LGA) of the state.


 


 


The blockage was to pave way for construction of bridges on the ongoing Yenagoa-Oporoma expected to make Oporoma, headquarters of Southern Ijaw LGA accessible by road.


 


 


Moses Teibowei, Commissioner for Works in Bayelsa told members of Federated Correspondents Chapelof NUJ after an independent tour of the project  that the state government was sensitive to the plight of the residents along the banks of the blocked river.

Nurses Association laments shortage of nurses in Bayelsa says 400 nurses inadequate

The Bayelsa chapter of National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwife (NANNM) on Monday lamented the acute shortage of nurses in the state.



They noted that the dearth of nurses has grossly hampered the achievement of the SDGs goal three which is the healthcare delivery to the doorsteps of the people.

.


Mrs. Sonia Andabai, State Chairman of NANNM who disclosed this in a chat with newsmen in Yenagoa, said that the rural areas were more affected.

Bayelsa Forex Scheme, Baraza says says it has refunded N10.9 m to investors

The Yenagoa based  Barazar Multipurpose Cooperative society claims it has refunded 109 of subscribers to its forex trading scheme following its failure to pay returns since March.




Barazar adopts the cooperative model to mobilise funds for foriegn exchange trading where members share the profits and losses.
