The Bayelsa Command of
Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) on Wednesday said it has set up a special unit
to avert clashed between farmers and herdsmen in the state.

Mr Philip Ayuba,
Commandant of the NSCDC in Bayelsa stated this at the launch of the Agro
Rangers Unit of the NSCDC at the command headquarters in Yenagoa.
Ayuba explained that
the unit is part of the NSCDC’s response to frequent clashes and bring under
control the unfortunate clashes, killings and wanton destruction of lives and property
in the country
He said the newly
created Agro Rangers Unit is to ensure adequate security of agricultural
investments such as farmlands, silos, ranches, livestock, agricultural
processing industries and other agro allied infrastructures in the state.
He charged officers
and men of the unit to ensure professionalism in the discharge of their duties.
Also speaking, Dr Boma
Spero-Jack, Special Adviser to the Governor on Security, who represented Gov.
Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa, lauded the NSCDC for launching the unit, describing
it as timely.
He noted that the move
will encourage investments in agriculture which in turn will boost food
security and rapid growth and development in the economy.
Also, newly promoted
senior officers of the command were decorated with their new ranks.
Ayuba in his charge to
the newly promoted officers urged them to see it as a reward for hard work,
noting that to whom much is given much is expected.
The event had in
attendance Service Commanders of various security agencies in the state and
their representatives amongst others.
