PDP aspirant promiseS to create wealth, business opportunities for Bayelsa people

MR KEMELA OKARA, IMMEDIATE PAST SSG, AND PDP GUBER HOPEFUL FOR BAYELSA



A PDP governorship aspirant, Kemela Okara, has pledged to diversify Bayelsa economy to create wealth, employment opportunities if elected as governor of the state.


He assured party delegates to the Sept. 3 primaries that his administration would ensure economic empowerment for the people of the state.


 Okara, who spoke in an interview on Wednesday in Yenagoa, said that Bayelsa could be self-sufficient if its resources and common wealth were property harnessed.





The immediate past Secretary to the State Government of Bayelsa is among the 21 seeking for the PDP ticket ahead the  state governorship election scheduled for Nov. 16.


He promised to establish processing industries, create enabling environment as well as support Small and Medium Scale Enterprise if given the mandate to govern the state.


Okara who also pledged to address the problem of income in the state, added that his economic blueprint covered agriculture, industry and oil and gas.


"One of the challenges of the people in Bayelsa is income not having enough money in hand to do with the day-to day need. It is a fundamental problem we need to solve.


"We will ensure that we create opportunity for people to earn more money, that is what we will do for the people of Bayelsa state.


"When you create employment and business opportunity for the people, the life of the average man touched and affected.


"The challenges will be tackled if elected as the Governor of Bayelsa state. We will utilize the common wealth of Bayelsa for the benefit of all in the State.

"So, we will ensure that the common wealth of the state will create opportunities for people to quantitatively improve their lives.

"That is the hallmark of governance, that is what I think we should focus on for now.

"Governor Seriake Dickson, has done very well in the areas of infrastructure, education, health care and security.

"But we can still do more to make Bayelsa state a place where business thrive and employment opportunities abound, to expand the economy and enable people live a prosperous life with joy and happiness they reserve," he said.


On why he should be the rightful successor to Gov Dickson, Okara, said as a former two times Commissioner for Trade and Investment, he has come to understand the necessary tools to expand the economic sphere of Bayelsa state.


He said that he would leverage on his experience in the current administration as Commissioner and Secretary to Bayelsa Government to consolidate on the gains and achievements of Dickson’s administration.


According to him: "We have done very well as Restoration Government, to provide education, as we have over ten boarding schools. We have health care facilities across the entire state.

"On infrastructure we have built many roads, the airport is ready and in short time the perimeter fencing will be completed, as we have dine very well.

"We have done well, we need to industrialised and for investors to see the need to come and invest and establish in Bayelsa," he stated.

He said Bayelsa is blessed with abundant gas, and has a good fertile soil, and that Bayelsa has the highest gas deposit in the country.

The Governorship aspirant urged the delegate to join hand in building a prosperous Bayelsa, as he assures them of improve economy for the good of all Bayelsa people.
