Gov Dickson appoints new CPS


Gov. Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa on Thursday appointed a new Chief Press Secretary (CPS), Mr Fidelis Soriwei.

Mr Daniel Iworiso-Markson, Commisioner for Information in the state who announced this in a statement made available to newsmen in Yenagoa, said the appointment took immediate effect.

Iworiso-Markson said that Soriwei would take over from Dr. Francis Ottah-Agbo who had since resigned from the position.

Niger Delta group protests, writes EFCC on nonpayment of contractors.


South-South Peoples Assembly, (SSPA), has petitioned against the Coordinator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, (PAP) Professor Charles Dokubo to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, (EFCC), over alleged non payment of contractors.

According to SSPA, the present leadership of the PAP, “has created an omnious signs of derailment that is threatening the fragile peace and order in the Niger Delta region.

“This is on account of alleged mismanagement, unbridled greed and corruption.

Shell says crude set ablaze at Kolo Creek not from its operations


Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria (SPDC) says that the fire outbreak from a stockpile of crude in two communities in Ogbia, Bayelsa, did not come from its operations.

The SPDC Media Relations Manager, Mr Bamidele Odugbesan, said this in an interview  in Yenagoa on Tuesday.

He said that the company had no knowledge of the fire outbreak on Kolo Creek at Emeyal 1 and 2 communities.

Lifting of TCN's Sanction on PHEDC: Yenagoa residents yearn for improved power supply


Residents in Yenagoa on Tuesday expressed hope that the lifting of the sanctions imposed on the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHEDC) by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) would translate to improved power supply.

TCN on Tuesday announced the lifting of a Suspension Order from the electricity market it placed on the PHEDC since July 27,for breach of 'Market Conditions/participation Agreement.

According to the TCN notice available on its portal, the lifting of the sanction which followed PHEDC's compliance took effect on Monday.

The PHEDC and TCN had been shifting blames on the poor power supply in Bayelsa, with TCN saying that the PHEDC was unable to take up available power at its substation in Yenagoa while the PHEDC alleged that it was not getting enough power from the TCN grid.

Bayelsa LG Polls: Apathy boycott characterise process


Voter apathy and boycott by the dominant opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) characterised the local government elections in Bayela  on  Saturday.

The APC had said that it pulled out of the polls because the Bayelsa State Independent Electoral Commission was constituted of card carrying members of PDP who could not be trusted to conduct credible elections.

Checks in Yenagoa, Ogbia and Kolokuma-Opokuma local government areas indicate that markets and shops remained open while the polling stations were deserted.

FOMWAN trains 180 youths in Bayelsa to fight against Child, Women Abuse


The Bayelsa chapter of the Federation of Muslim Women Association of Nigeria (FOMWAN) has enlisted the support of youths its campaign against Child and Women abuse in the society.

Some 180 youths drawn from the Niger Delta states of Imo, Rivers, Delta and Bayelsa are participating in a training programme with the theme was “The Fight against Children and Women Abuse; A Task for All Muslims”. In Yenagoa.

The four-day holiday programme organized for youths by FOMWAN is holding at the Bishop Dimieri Grammar School, Ovom Yenagoa.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the event on Thursday, Prof.  Isa Ibrahim , Chairman of the occasion noted that children and women are tender and  must be treated with utmost care, attention and love.

PDP aspirant promiseS to create wealth, business opportunities for Bayelsa people

MR KEMELA OKARA, IMMEDIATE PAST SSG, AND PDP GUBER HOPEFUL FOR BAYELSA



A PDP governorship aspirant, Kemela Okara, has pledged to diversify Bayelsa economy to create wealth, employment opportunities if elected as governor of the state.


He assured party delegates to the Sept. 3 primaries that his administration would ensure economic empowerment for the people of the state.


 Okara, who spoke in an interview on Wednesday in Yenagoa, said that Bayelsa could be self-sufficient if its resources and common wealth were property harnessed.
