Niger Delta Youth Coalition condemns failed attempt to impeach Gov Udom at A/Ibom Assembly

Niger Delta youths on Friday condemned the failed attempt to impeach the governor of Akwa Ibom in the brewing crisis leading to the sealing off of Akwa Ibom Assembly.

The youths described as desperate, moves by the APC to wrest power from PDP states in the Niger Delta adding that it would be futile as was not on ground in Akwa Ibom and indeed the Niger Delta region.


The assembly was plunged into crisis on Tuesday after five APC lawmakers, whose seats were recently declared vacant by the Speaker of the House, Onofiok Luke, attempted to impeach Gov Emmanuel Udom.

The ruling Peoples Democratic Party in the state  accused the immediate  past  governor of the state Godswill Akpabio, an APC leader, of masterminds of the failed impeachment a development Akpabio denied.

2019: NGO urges Niger Delta youths to shun violence and build peace in the region



The Initiative for Noble Women and Strategic Development on Wednesday in Yenagoa urged Niger Delta youths to resist being induced to thuggery and electoral violence ahead the 2019 polls.



The group, a Non Governmental Organisation made the appeal at a Peace Building and Sensitization Workshop for Niger Delta youths in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa capital.



Mr Anslem Asuzu, who represented the NGO and a keynote speaker noted that peace was fundamental to every segment of the society and regretted that poverty ,unemployment were inimical  to peace.

N/Delta youth group applauds NLNG for Nigerian Content in $7bn Train 7

The Niger Delta Youths Coalition for Peace and Progress (NDYCPP) on Tuesday applauded the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) for its strategy of involving Nigerians in its Train-7 expansion.
.
Mr Tiedor Olayinka President of NDYCPP said in an interview that plan to implement the Nigerian Content Policy in the gas production expansion project would serves as catalyst for economic progress.


Olayinka, who was reacting to assurances made by the Managing Director of NLNG, Mr Tony Attah that the firm was banking on Nigerian firms to build the NLNG Train-7.

Residents protest extortion as Policeman on patrol kills 20 year old undergraduate in Bayelsa


Residents of Akemfa a suburb in Yenagoa on Saturday blocked all access roads to protest the killing Tariela Nikadae, a 20 year old undergraduate by a member of a Police Patrol Team on Friday.

Policemen in patrol vans load people from their neigbourhoods and sent to detention centre near the Police headquarters in Yenagoa where they are meant to pay to secure their liberty.

The protest by angry youths who claimed the victim was innocent and a known person without criminal tendencies disrupted vehicular movement in the area compelling residents to remain in the area.

Geoscientist says renewable energy poses no threat to oil and gas

Mr Johnbosco Uche, a geoscientist on Thursday allayed fears that renewable energy sources would take the place of oil and gas in the world energy market and called for concerted efforts to grow Nigeria’s oil reserve from 37 billion barrels to 40 billion barrels.

He said that the 40 billion barrels reserve target was achievable if exploration activities were intensified beyond known boundaries.

Uche noted that the fears that renewables will adversely affect the oil sector was unfounded and challenged the geoscience professionals to widen their scope to break new grounds in exploration for oil and gas.

2019 elections: imbibe ethics, avoid sycophancy Don admonishes journalists


Prof Chinyere Okunna, Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, has stressed the need for journalists to imbibe ethics and avoid sycophancy in the discharge of their duties during the 2019 general election and beyond.


Okunna stated this recently in Enugu, while delivering a lecture at a two- days capacity building for journalists organised by the International Press Centre (IPC) and funded through Component 4b: Support to the media of the EU Support to Democratic Governance in Nigeria (EU-SDGN) project.

The Nigeria Media has been advised to inbuild human index development data into political reporting ahead of the 2019 general elections.


Mr Jide Ojo,  a resource person gave the advise while delivering a presentation at a workshop organised by the International Press Centre (IPC) for journalists recently in Enugu.

Presenting a paper titled "Integrating Socio-Economic and Human Index Development Data into Political Reporting ahead of 2019 elections" he said that the media had an onerous role to play in setting the agenda.

Bayelsa Govt charges ‘whistle blowers’ who discovered cash stacked at Gov Dickson.s residence for conspiracy to rob


Five suspects who allegedly contemplated to disclose a location at Gov Dickson’s country home at Toru Orua in Sagbama Local Government are being prosecuted for conspiracy to rob Dickson with arms.

In the statement of prosecution witness filed before the court as proof of evidence, one of the suspects, a construction worker at Dickson’s residence had discovered a room stuffed with cash.

 The suspect planned to approach the Economic and Financial Crimes Commision under the whistle blowing policy to earn the commission from the cash haul.

Bayelsa APC N90 bn debt for Bayelsa airport an economic waste



The Bayelsa chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Thursday said that borrowing by the state government to fund the N90 bn International Cargo airport does not make economic sense.

 APC said borrowing at the interest rate in the money market was not sustainable and was a ploy to siphone public funds as the huge interests paid on the loan would stifle the state in the next eight years.

A statement by the State Publicity Secretary of APC,Mr Doifie Buokoribo. the N90 billion  Bayelsa airport project was built at  inflated costs, making it “clearly the most expensive airport project in Nigeria.

Ex Bayelsa Security Adviser seeks Court of Appeal’s review denial of bail in rape trial

The Chief Richard Kpodo, a former Security Adviser to ex-Gov. Timipre Sylva standing trial for alleged rape of a 26 year old former employee has appealed an earlier ruling denying him bail.

Trial judge, Justice E. Eradiri had on July,31 denied the accused bail, premised on his health condition and ruled Kpodo be remanded in Prison custody from where he would be given access to medical care.

Party primaries in Bayelsa: Foundation decries imposition of candidates, lack of internal democracy


G24 Embasara Foundation, a Bayelsa based civil society group on Friday bemoaned the imposition of candidates by dominant parties in the recently concluded party primaries in the state.

 G24 Ambasara Foundation expressed its dismay in a statement signed by Denzel Amagbe Kentebe, Chairman Board of Trustees and Iniruo Wills, Co-convener  and made available to newsmen in Yenagoa.                                   

The group non partisan, not-for profit leadership and governance initiative, noted that it is disturbed by the alarming proportion of candidates that were reportedly forced and foisted on the people by godfathers.

It observed that the practice led to the exclusion of other aspirants thereby depriving the people of  Bayelsa the benefit of a robust engagement that would have led to the emergence of the best

Business owners in Bonny express delight over NLNG Train-7 opportunities workshop


Bonny business group applaud NLNG Train-7 opportunities workshop


 Indigenous Vendors in Bonny, Rivers have expressed willingness to participate in the business opportunities roundtable for the area on November 22 and 23 on the NLNGTrain-7.

NLNG Train-7, is a gas production expansion project valued at over $7 billion by the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas Limited (NLNG) located in Bonny Island in Rivers.

The entrepreneurs under the auspices of Association Niger Delta Vendors in Oil and Gas said the upcoming Business Workshop for Young Entrepreneurs in the Oil and Gas in Bonny Kingdom ahead the Train-7 was a welcome development.

Mr Chris Jumbo, Organising Committee Chairman for the event told newsmen in Bonny on Monday that the meeting to highlight opportunities was timely, as it will address teething challenges for the project to take off smoothly.
