Health Information Managers Association inaugurated at FMC, Bayelsa




The Health Information Managers Association of Nigeria (HIMAN) on August 17,  2016inaugurated a branch and department at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Yenagoa, Bayelsa.

Mr Babale Nafada, National President of the Association, who performed the inaugural ceremony on Friday, said the essence was to improve the health information management of the hospital.

Nafada stressed the need for procurement of software modules to enable FMC, Yenagoa to input and process data without setback.

According to him, there was the need to create a networking system of information management in every department; install central unit in areas that need wire and wireless networks.

“Today, we have inaugurated the executive of HIMAN, FMC Yenagoa branch and we believe, that with the present of the association in the hospital, the department of Health Information Management will improve performance.

“We expect the newly executives to work as a team, because efforts is being gear that the six geo-political zone in the country are integrated to ensure we form a formidable teamwork.

“I urge the executives to work in togetherness; because this is the time they can do all they can for the betterment of hospital management.

“Let them strategise and ensure that what they do is in line with the already set standard.

“That is in line with the set objectives of human constitution because human constitution contains everything it takes to move medical profession forward.

“Therefore, you should be guided by the health constitution of Health Managers Association of Nigeria; be dedicated to duty for effective information management,” he said.

Dr Dennis Alagoa, Medical Director, Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa said the inauguration of HIMAN and Department of Health Information Management in the Hospital was a welcome development.

Alagoa pledged to cooperate with the association to ensure that the department was sustained and developed to optimal standard.

“Though, we still need an in-house training of staff because what we actually working towards is to have zero tolerance to long waiting before service,” he said.


In his remark, Chairman of HIMAN, FMC Yenago, Mr Ebiowei Nobia expressed his readiness to cooperate with members and hospital management for effective health information management.
