Anioma State: Timi advises Nwoko to seek doctrine of necessity

Dr Tonye Timi, a former member of the Delta House of Assembly has advised Sen. Ned Nwoko to lobby critical stakeholders for “Doctrine of Necessity” to actualise the creation of Anioma State.


Timi gave the advice in an interview in Abuja on Tuesday.


Nwoko had in June proposed the creation of Anioma State in the Senate,  to balance the representation from the South East Geopolitical Zone.

Ideato North LG Boss inspects council, assured staff of conducive working environment




Chidubem Ozigbo, the newly appointed Sole Administrator of Ideato North on Friday inspected the premises of the council and pledged a conducive working environment for staff of the local government.



Ozigbo was ccompanied by the Head of Department  of Works and other key officials of the council.

Eid-il-Kabir: NSCDC expands intelligence network in Edo




The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC)  has expanded an Intelligence network ahead of Sunday’s Eid -el-Kabir celebrations in Edo.


This is contained in a statement on Friday by Mr Efosa Ogbebor, Head Public Relations and Media Unit of the command and made available to the media.


According to Ogbebor, the state Commandant of the corps, Agun Gbenga disclosed this while highlighting the command’s preparation for the Sallah celebration as well as the public holidays.

Bayelsa born Internationally Acclaimed Ace-Photojournalist narrates humiliation from Gov Diri’s inuaguration

A veteran internationally acclaimed photo-journalist, Bodise Wilson has narrated the humiliating ill-treatment received from Mr Victor Isishelle, the Chief Protocol to Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa state.


The Diri administration has severally exhibited disdain for mainstream media practitioners and made it a policy to shut out Correspondents of National Media from first hand coverage of government activities resorting to issuing press releases to journalists deployed to the state.


It would be recalled that Gov Diri had during the National Assembly Elections in 2023 while reacting to concerns of shutting out and alienating mainstream media practitioners from government activities defended the actions.

N/Delta women commend NDDC’s poverty eradication policy



A coalition of women group in the Niger Delta region has commended the policies of the Niger Delta Development Commision (NDDC) to tackle poverty in the area.



The women groups pledged to support the policies being executed by Managing Director of NDDC Dr. Sam Ogbuku, which they described as transparent and focused . 


The women, under the auspices of Coalition of Niger Delta Women Leaders, made this known in a statement issued on Sunday  in Yenagoa.


Ijaw Women Connect hails appointment of Agediga as Chairman Delta Scholarship Board




Ijaw Women Connect (IWC) on Sunday commended the appointment of its Patron, Dr. Shedrack Agediga as Chairman Delta State Bursary and Scholarship Board.



Mrs Rosemary John-Oduone, Founder, IWC Worldwide in a congratulatory letter to Agediga noted that Gov Sheriff Oborevwori put a square peg in a square hole in the appointment.





She recalled that Agediga who had put in several years in Ijaw activism, conflict resolution and educational development would bring his experience to bear in the new assignment.



“Patron, Sir, your passion, dedication, and commitment to service in transforming the narrative towards educating the youths of Delta State and beyond is a testament to the fact that this appointment is well deserving of you.

Chief of Defense Staff’s wife distributes paluatived to widows of fallen heroes in Bayelsa

The Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association (DEPOWA) says no fewer than 120 widows of fallen heroes of the Armed Forces have benefited from its humanitarian gesture.



The President of DEPOWA, and wife if the Chief of Defense Staff, Mrs Oghogho Musa, disclosed this at the weekend while presenting the food items to the widows at Joint Task Force Operation Delta Safe (OPDS) in Yenagoa.



The food items, distributed by DEPOWA included bags of rice (25kg), cartons of noodles, tubers of yam, vegetable oil and spaghettis, among others.


Oil theft: Tantita, NSCDC apprehend crude laden vessel at SPDC’s field in Bayelsa

The Tantita Security Services Limited (TSSL) has impounded MT Kally, an ocean-going vessel laden with suspected stolen crude oil in Bayelsa barely 24 hours after the Nigerian Navy launched "Operation Delta Sanity" in Warri.


The vessel, laden with yet-to-be ascertained volume of crude estimated to be in region of thousands of metric tonnes of crude was impounded on Thursday in a joint operation by the officials of TSSL and the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).


TSSL, is a private security outfit is owned by a former militant leader in the Niger Delta, Chief Government Ekpemupolo, alias Tompolo.

N/Delta youths say Ogbuku’s leadership at NDDC is endearing opposition to APC

Some youth groups in the Niger Delta on Tuesday said the inclusive style of Dr Samuel Ogbuku, Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) is endearing opposition party members to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).


They noted that the open door policies of the current leadership at NDDC has placed the Commision at the service of Niger Delta people across party lines making inputs to development plans for the region.
