Shell invests in 4 projects to meet Nigeria’s domestic gas demand

The Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) says it has positioned itself to meet the domestic gas demand projected to hit 5 billion standard cubit daily by 2022 by developing for gas fields.

 

 

The energy firm also reiterated its support to the Federal Government of Nigeria’s goal of using the country’s proven gas reserves to drive economic activities for gas-based industrialization. 

 

A statement issued by Mr Bamidele Odugbesan, Media Relations Manager quoted Mr. Osagie Okunbor, SPDC’s Managing Director as saying that the company remains optimistic in deveoping the gas potentials of Nigeria

Bayelsa Primary Healthcare workers suspend strike

The Bayelsa State Chapter of Medical and Health Workers' Union of Nigeria (MHWUN) on Sunday said it has suspended the industrial action embarked upon by its members on Feb 12.

 

 

 

Mr Barnabas Simon, Bayelsa Chairman of MHWUN said that the Union took the decision after a meeting of the State Executives of the Union on Friday in Yenagoa.

  

 

He said the decision to suspend the strike is sequel to the approval of the implementation of primary health care workers promotion arrears with effect from March salary.

Bayelsa Project Monitoring Directorate says pace of work on 23 km ring road impressive

The Bayelsa government says that with the pace and quality of work at the 23 kilometer Igbogene ring road, the 24 month completion date from Jan 2021 is realisable..



  • Mr Ebiye Tarabina, Chairman of the Directorate for Project Monitoring and Evaluation, who made the observation on Saturday said he was impressed by the high standard and speed of work.

Police free abducted Civil Servant In Bayelsa, arrest 2 kidnappers

A female Civil Servant abducted by a four man armed gang that seize unsuspecting car owners in Yenagoa was on Monday rescued whilst the abductors were trying to withdraw cash from her account.

 

 

The men of the Police team that rescued the victim arrested two members of the armed gang who disguise as Government Task Force Team to abduct and rob members of the public.

 

 

SP Asinim Butswat, Spokesman of the Police Command in Bayelsa said that the operation followed a distress call which prompted the dispatch of the team to the crime scene.

Environmentalists, residents lament indiscriminate gas burning, leaks from Agip’s facility in Bayelsa

Environmentalists and residents on Wednesday raised concerns over the dangers faced by residents near the Ogboinbiri Oilfield operated by Nigeria Agip Oil Company (NAOC) in Southern Ijaw Local government Area in Bayelsa.

Residents from the area fled their homes on Monday following pungent odour from gas leaks which polluted the air as a result of ‘production flare’ to burn off excess gas and reduce pressure in the oil and gas facility.

Court adjourns OML 29 suit against Aiteo pending Appeal court decision

A Federal High Court in Yenagoa on Thursday, adjourned ‘sine die’  (indefinitely) , a suit against Aiteo Exploration and Production Limited, pending a Court of Appeal ruling on an interlocutory appeal in the substantive suit.



Justice Abimbola Awogboro had on March 3, 2020 declined to stay proceedings in the ongoing litigation by Nembe Communities, hosts to Oil Mining Lease (OML 29) over the adverse impact of oil exploration.



Awogboro had joined Aiteo Eastern Exploration and Production Limited and other adjourning communities in the suit, but declined an application to strike out Aiteo Exploration and Production Company from the suit.

Shell says allegations of involvement in ‘Oil theft’ at its Terminal is misleading

The Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria (SPDC) says allegations of involvement in oil theft at its Bonny Crude Export Terminal was misleading.



A 2 million barrels crude deficit between 2016 and 2018 reported at the Bonny terminal operated by SPDC has caused a dispute amongst several oil firms that use the oil export facility.



Aiteo Exploration and Production Company claimed that SPDC shortchanged it of 1,022,029 barrels of crude while using the Bonny Crude Export Terminal operated by SPDC between 2016 and 2018.

Marginal Oilfields licencing: Court adjourns suit by Ijaw Leaders

The Federal High Court Yenagoa, on Friday adjourned a suit by Ijaw leaders seeking to halt the process leading to licensing for marginal oilfields located in their domains pending the determination of their  suit.

 

The Suit marked No, PHC/YEN/CS/81/2020 was filed by Chief Brown Agu (Opu Agu VIII), Mrs Rosemary John-Oduone President Ijaw Women Connect and Mr Femowei Friend.

 

The presiding judge, Justice Abimbola Awogboro adjourned the case to March 10 for a continuation of hearing following an appeal by the defense counsel Idris Imam for time to respond to a motion.

Aiteo says Shell short changed it of 1.02 million barrels crude

Aiteo Exploration and Production Company, has claimed that Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) shortchanged it of 1,022,029 barrels of crude while using the Bonny Crude Export Terminal operated by SPDC.



According to court records sighted on Thursday, Aiteo, an indigenous oil firm which acquired OML 29 following SPDC’s divestment from the asset  approached a Federal High Court in Lagos to seek redress and refund.



OML 29, includes the 97 kilometer NCTL which has capacity to lift up to 180,000 barrels per day of crude from oilfields in Bayelsa and Rivers to the Bonny terminal.




Aiteo wants the court to resolve the disputed 2 million barrels crude deficit reported at the Bonny Oil Export terminal operated by Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) amongst several oil firms that use the Bonny Terminal..

NCDMB lauds Total for FID on ‘Ikike Project’ despite delayed passage of PIB

The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) has commended Total Exploration and Production (Total E & P) for its confidence in the Nigerian economy.

 

 

Executive Secretary of NCDMB, Engr. Simbi Wabote made the commendation in a statement issued on Sunday. 

 

 

The statement was signed by Mr Naboth Onyesoh, Manager, Corporate Communications at NCDMB.

Health workers strike shuts Primary Healthcare in Bayelsa

The ongoing strike by Medical and Health Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MHWUN), Bayelsa Chapter has grounded Primary Healthcare Centres across the state.

The strike has hampered access to basic healthcare services like ante-natal for pregnant women and child immunisation at healthcentres across the eight council areas in Bayelsa.

The union which draws its membership mostly from primary health centres began an indefinite industrial action on Friday over non-payment of 15 months’ salary arrears.

Claims that SPDC underreported 2 million from 2016 to 2018 , false says DPR

The Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) on Friday dismissed reports that it uncovered ‘missing  2 million barrels of crude’ in oil production records between 2016 and 2018 as false.

 

The report had alleged that Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) which was allegedly found culpable had admitted the infraction and offered to refund the cost of the oil and pay a fine.

Nembe Monarchs warn youths against disrupting FG’s road projects

The Opu-Nembe Council of Chiefs in Nembe Local Government Area of Bayelsa has condemned the activities of some errant youths who disrupted a Federal Government road project in the area.



The chiefs made the condemnation in a statement on Thursday signed by the Chairman, Opu-Nembe Council of Chiefs, Oriango Oruwari and the Secretary of council, Chief Ivory Fikoru.



They said the youths had prevented the contractors from continuing with the construction of the road connecting Opume-Okoroba-Agrisaba and Ikensi group of communities.

First Anniversary in Office: inherited 0ver 8 years Pensioners’ liability- says Gov Diri

Barely three days to his first anniversary in office, Gov Douye Diri of Bayelsa has disclosed that he inherited outstanding liabilities for gratuities and pension from his predecessor, Sen Seriake Dickson.



It will be  recalled that Diri was sworn in as Bayelsa governor, on Feb. 14, 2020 following a Supreme Court verdict on Feb. 13, 2020 that sacked the erstwhile Governor-Elect Chief David Lyon.



Speaking at an interactive session with newsmen as part of activities for the first anniversary in office, Diri explained that he remains committed to offsetting the pension liabilities.

Suspected oil thieves ambush, kill soldier on surveillance patrol in Apoi, Bayelsa

Unknown gunmen suspected to be oil thieves have killed a soldier and made away with his weapon in Apoi Community in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa.


It will be recalled that a similar fate befell a team of Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) team on Feb. 4 who lost their weapons during a gun duel with the hoodlums.


Armed gangs frequently ambush military operatives deployed to guard oil facilities in the creeks of Ekeremor and Southern Ijaw Local Government Areas to harvest their arms and ammunition.

Gov Diri’s Aide, Oredipe donates sports kits to Bayelsa Athletics Team

Mr. Kola Oredipe, Director,New Media to Bayelsa Governor on Tuesday presented training kits to Bayelsa athletics team to the forthcoming National Sports Festival in Edo State. 

 

 

 

 

Oredipe, a former athlete and journalist said the donation was part of efforts to compliment government efforts in sports development as well as boost the morale of athletes to win laurels.

 

  

 

 

 

  Items donated include spike shoes, running vest and other training kits.

CAN President, to bow out as Nigerian Baptist Convention Prident in June

President of the  Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and Nigerian Baptist Convention (NBC), Dr Samson Ayokunle, on Sunday said he is leaving office with a huge sense of satisfaction and happiness.



Ayokunle stated this in his message at the Newlife Baptist Church (NLBC), Biogbolo-Epie, Yenagoa, during his farewell visit to some churches in the Bayelsa Baptist Conference on Sunday.

Unspent N26bn: We acted in compliance to FG’s financial regulations- Amnesty Office

The Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP) on Friday said that it returned some N26 billion unspent funds to the treasury in compliance to extant financial guidelines.

 

 

Mr Nneotaobase Egbe, Special Adviser on Media to Interim Administrator,  PAP, Col. Milland Dikio, (Rtd) in a statement dismissed reports that the PAP was targeted in the return of unspent funds.

Oil thieves Attack NSCDC Operatives in Ekeremor LGA, Bayelsa as Govt condemns act

The Bayelsa government on Thursday condemned the attack on operatives of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) in Ekeremor Local Government Area of the state by suspected oil thieves.

.



The condemnation was contained in a press statement issued by Mr Doubara Atasi, Senior Special Assistant to Bayelsa Deputy Governor, Sen.  Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo.




This followed a meeting with NSCDC officials, community leaders and stakeholders from the area at Government House, Yenagoa.

Police brutality: Be discreet while recording police officers, CP Okoli advises

 

            Commissioner of Police, Bayelsa Police Command, CP Mike Okoli has called on Nigerians to be discrete and cautious when taking pictures and video of police officers brutalising the citizens.

  • Okoli gave the advice in Port Harcourt on Tuesday while receiving award as ‘Most Active’ commissioner of police in South South, serving as CP, Bayelsa Police Command.




  • The award was organised by the Bosinde Araikpe Global Peace Initiative (BAGPI) for police officers who distinguished themselves while carrying out their duty.
