Police foil kidnap incident at Ogbia in Bayelsa, rescue 2 victims


Barely three weeks after the Bayelsa Police Command freed a six year old kidnap victim, the Command on Thursday said it foiled another incident and freed two victims kidnapped on Wednesday.


The kidnappers met a resistance when policemen responding to a distress call accosted them while attempting to put the captives into a waiting speedboat and fled leaving their hostages.


SP Asinim Butswat, Spokesman to Bayelsa Command who confirmed the incident on Thursday, said the Command was on the trail of the fleeing kidnappers.

Residents groan as power supply in Bayelsa worsens despite truce with PH DISCO


Barely one month after the two-week face-off that kept Bayelsa in total darkness, power supply has deteriorated after aggrieved youths who shut supply in protest agreed to a truce.
Residents comprising small business owners who reacted to the development on Tuesday called on the Port Harcourt Electricitiy Distribution Company (PHEDC) and Bayelsa government to keep to the terms of the truce agreements.
Bayelsa Government had on Jan. 8 resolved the rift between Ijaw Youths Council (IYC) and Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHEDC) which led to power cut in the state since December 23, 2019.

We foiled 419 vandalism attempts on oil export pipeline in N/Delta in 2019 says Military Commander


The Joint Military Force deployed to protect oil infrastructure in the Niger Delta on Saturday says that more than 419 attacks on oil export facilities were nipped in the bud in 2019.


The feat, according to the military led to uninterrupted oil experts in the outgone year.


Rear Admiral Akinjide Akinrinade, Commander of the joint force said that the operations of Shell Petroleum Development Company as well as other International Oil Companies were the key targets.

Police warn against ‘Jungle Justice’ as mob burn 2 suspected armed robbers in Yenagoa


The Bayelsa Police Command on Thursday warned residents to refraim from taking the laws into their hands during crime incidents adding that anyone arrested will be prosecuted.

The warning is coming on the heels of Thursday’s mob action against two armed robbery suspects ‘caught in the act’ at Green Villa Road, Biogbolo area of Yenagoa.

It was learnt that residents and sympathizers who responded to distress calls for help from an operators of a Point of Sales (PoS) terminal cash operator apprehended the two armed robbers and disarmed them and beat them to death.

The irate mob took the remains of the two robbers into the Lexus car in which they operated with and set it ablaze and watched it burn to ashes before the arrival of the Police.

Bayelsa exceeds 16,000 jobs target from World Bank/EU funds


The Bayelsa government has surpassed a target of 16,000 jobs for youths with a World Bank loan and grant component finance from the European Union (EU).


The bilateral fund administered under State Employment and Expenditure for Results (SEEFOR) Project has impacted some 17,685 youths with temporary jobs for a one year period from June 2013 till date.


It will be recalled that Bayelsa on November 21, 2018 commenced the deployment of one million dollars bilateral loan it obtained from the World Bank in addition to an earlier $50 million loan and grant component from European Union (EU).


The national secretariat of the World Bank-intervention SEEFOR Project on Thursday said Bayelsa qualified to benefit from the Phase Two of the SEEFOR Project haven surpassed set targets.

Bayelsa residents recall ordeal as DISCO reverts to load shedding after 2 week shutdown


Three days after the resolution of the two-week face-off that kept Bayelsa in total darkness, power supply has resumed 48 hours after aggrieved youths agreed to a truce.


Bayelsa government had on Jan 8 resolved the rift between Ijaw Youths Council (IYC) and Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHEDC) which led to power cut in the state since Dec. 23, 2019.

The youths had shut down the operations of the electricity DISCO in protest of poor power supply and estimated billing not proportionate to the power supply to customers.

Izunwanne, Igbo Media and Professionals Group Chides Enugu DISCO for insensitivity to prepaid meter customers


Izunwanne, an association of professionals of the Southeast extraction, has condemned the decision of Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) to discontinue the use of standalone prepaid meters in the zone.
According to the group, the EEDC was using the excuse of changing the metering system in the zone as a ploy to return to estimated billing.
In a statement issued on Thursday, by Mr. Abuchi Anueyiagu and Mr. Ngwuoke Ngwuoke, Convener and Secretary respectively, the forum accused EEDC of aggravating the hardship suffered by electricity consumers in the Southeast zone.

Bayelsa Outage: Ijaw youths vacate PHEDC offices as firm pledges to restore power


Bayelsa government on Wednesday evening resolved the rift between Ijaw Youths Council (IYC) and Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHEDC) which let to power cut since Dec 23, 2019.

Mr Kenedy Olorogun, Chairman, Central Zone of the IYC , who confirmed the development in a telephone interview said the youths have agreed to vacate the premises of PHEDC.

He said that the peace talks brokered by the Secretary to Bayelsa Government Mr Kemela Okara paved way for the youths who had forcefully shut down operatios of the DISCo in protest to power supply and estimated billing.

Bayelsa Outage: PHEDC regrets impact on economy says N16.6bn debt crippling the firm


The Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHEDC) says the power outage in Bayelsa since Dec. 23, 2019 and its adverse impact on economic activities is regrettable.

The electricity outage occasioned by the face-off between the Ijaw Youths Council (IYC) and the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHEDC) has entered the 15th day causing anguish to residents.

The IYC had, on Dec.23,2019 besieged the offices of the PHEDC and forced the staff to shut down operations, occupying the premises to protest perceived poor power supply to residents.

Legislator blames Nigeria’s development challenge on policy inconsistency


Mr Patrick Ifon, Member, Representing Esit-Eket, Ibeno, Onna Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives  has blamed Nigeria’s developmental challenges on policy inconsistency.

Ifon disclosed this during an interaction with reporters on Sunday in Yenagoa.

He said policy summersaults was the bane of Nigeria’s underdevelopment adding that the country had remained underdeveloped despite its huge human and natural resources.

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Bayelsa Command said that two people were arrested during attempted vandalism of a telecommunications facility in Yenagoa during the yuletide.

Mrs Christiana Abiakam-Omanu, Bayelsa Commandant of the NSCDC made the disclosure  on Friday in Yenagoa.

The commandant said that the successful operation was as a result of the command’s commitment to lives and property in the state.

Shutdown of PHEDC in Bayelsa over N16.5 bn debt, blackout enters day 10


The power outage occasioned by the face-off between the Ijaw Youths Council (IYC) and the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHEDC) has entered the 10th day with an adverse impact.

.
The IYC had on December 23, besieged the offices of the PHEDC and forced the staff to ground operations, occupying the premises to protest perceived poor power supply to residents.

The development, which resulted to total power outage in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa capital and its environs including Ahoada and parts of River has compelled residents to rely wholly on generators with resultant increase in petrol demand.
