Joint military force in Niger Delta concludes arms proficiency exercise

The joint military force deployed to protect oil installations in the Niger Delta at the weekend concluded an arms handling training to enhance the precision of troops in operations.
The one month shooting and marksmanship exercise came to a climax with an inter sector skills at arms competition amongst the four sectors of the force based in the region.
Sector 3, of the Joint Task Force in Niger Delta christened, Operation Delta Safe won the gold trophy, Sector 2 clinched silver trophy while Sector 1 went home with the bronze trophy.

Bayelsa Govt concludes community sensitisation tour on public service reforms

 Bayelsa government on Thursday stated its has concluded a sensitisation tour on ongoing public service reforms, describing the ‘Town Hall’ meetings as “a huge success”.

The government had taken the interactive sessions on the ongoing reforms which fished out 28,000 ghost workers to the eight local government area across the state.

The government said the exercise which came to a close on Monday in Oporoma, Headquarters of Southern Ijaw Local Government Area, had the collective endorsement of all stakeholders in the state.

Reforms: No regrets over sack of 28,000 ‘ghost’ workers says Bayelsa Govt


The Bayelsa government, Tuesday said it was not deterred by the concerns raised over loss of 28,000 jobs occasioned by ongoing public service reforms insisting that only ‘ghost’ were affected.



The state government said it owes nobody any apologies for removing ghost names and fake workers who came into its public service through dubious means.


The Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mr Daniel Iworiso-Markson stated this at Oporoma, in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area in a grassroots sensitization programme on the public sector reforms.

2019: We did not endorse Atiku - Bayelsa PDP


The Bayelsa Chapter òf the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) on Thursday said it did not endorsed  Atiku Abubakar who visited the state, Wednesday to solicit support ahead 2019 presidential polls.

The state Chairman òf the party, Chief Moses Cleopas, said in a statement on that the visit of the former Vice President was not an endorsement of his aspiration to fly PDP’s flag in the 2019 polls.

He said that the doors of Bayelsa PDP remains open to all the aspirants seeking the party’s presidential ticket in the forth coming National convention of PDP.

Don laments neglect of remediation of oil pollution in Niger Delta


Dr Simon Amaduoboha, a University Lecturer has decried poor attitude to the environment and lack of remediation projects to cushion the adverse impacts of oil exploration in Niger Delta
region.

Amaduoboha, a Senior Lecturer at Niger Delta University in Bayelsa stated this on Friday at the opening of a two-day youth training on environmental laws, rights and conventions in Yenagoa.

He noted that political leaders from the Niger Delta region have used the environmental degradation to advocate greater share of oil revenue resulting to the 13 per cent derivation.

N/Delta group applauds JTF for stable operational climate for improved oil output


A community based group, Niger Delta Peace and Development has applauded the joint military force deployed to protect oil infrastructure for stability and addressing restiveness in the area.

James Julius, Chairman of the group said in an interview on Wednesday in Yenagoa that the enhanced security in the region was responsible for a rebound in oil production.

The community leader noted that the effective operations of the joint military force christened Operation Delta Safe under Rear Admiral Suleman Apochi checked renewed agitations that reduced oil output before 2016.

SPDC JV spent N21 bn on community development in 9 years in Bayelsa

Communities in Bayelsa received a total sum of N21.71 billion from the Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria (SPDC) Ltd for development projects between 2006 and 2017,

The amount is the total funds disbursed to the 14 Global Memorandum of Understanding (GMoU) clusters in the state since the inception of this mode of community development in 2006.

Mr Igo Weli, SPDC General Manager External Relations said the amount was the highest so far spent in the Niger Delta region while presenting the 2018 Shell Nigeria Briefing Notes to journalists in Yenagoa on Thursday.
